Soft washing the screens of a pool cage in Tampa Bay.
How we clean each part of the cage
Screens and frame need different care. Choose a part to see what we do.
Screens
Method
A cleaning solution goes on at low pressure and is left to work, then the screens get a gentle low-pressure rinse. The pool water is protected while we clean.
Equipment
Soft wash system.
We avoid
High pressure, which damages screens.
Aluminum frame
Method
The frame is cleaned with the screens. Oxidized frames, with a white powdery residue, can get a separate frame detailing with an oxidation treatment and a protective coating.
Equipment
Aluminum-safe cleaning solution.
We avoid
Leaving the frame dirty behind clean screens.
Heavy buildup
Method
Cages that have not been cleaned in two years or more, or that sit under heavy tree cover, may need an extra treatment with a longer dwell time. We assess it on site and ask you first.
Equipment
Extra-strength cleaning solution.
We avoid
Starting extra work without your approval.

Why pool cages get dirty in Tampa Bay
Humidity, shade and summer storms keep pool cage screens damp for much of the year.
Green and black growth
The heat and humidity after summer storms feed mold, mildew and algae on the screens, most of all on shaded sides.
A low-pressure soft wash lifts it from the screens and the frame without stretching or tearing the mesh.
Trees and gutters above the cage
Oaks drop leaves and pollen on the screen roof, and a clogged gutter above the cage overflows onto it.
We can clean the gutters above the cage on the same visit, so the screen roof stays clean longer.
Salt air near the water
Near the bay and the Gulf, salt settles on screens and frames as a dull film that rain does not wash off.
Cages near the water tend to need cleaning more often; we rinse the frame along with the screens.
Recent job: a pool cage soft wash in Safety Harbor
On 26 October we cleaned the pool cage of a home in Safety Harbor, in Pinellas County. Green algae had coated the screen panels. We soft washed the screens: the cleaning solution goes on at low pressure and is left to work, then the screens get a gentle rinse, so the mesh is never blasted. On the same visit we pressure washed the brick paver deck inside the cage with a rotary surface cleaner.

What comes off
Mold, mildew, algae, pollen, dirt, spider webs and bird droppings, from the screens and the aluminum frame.
How often to clean a pool cage
We recommend cleaning a pool cage once or twice a year. Cages near the water or under heavy tree cover are the ones that need it twice.
Pool deck and torn screens
The pool deck can be pressure washed at the same visit, to remove algae, chlorine buildup, sunscreen oils and calcium deposits; to protect it afterwards, see paver and concrete sealing. Torn panels can be rescreened with Phifer 18/14 mesh: in Thonotosassa we replaced three panels of a pool cage, the door, a large panel and a lower one.
What sets the price
Pool cage cleaning is priced per job, mainly by the size of the cage and how much buildup it has.
Size of the cage
Its footprint and its height.
How much buildup
Cages left two years or more, or under heavy tree cover, may need an extra treatment with a longer dwell time; we ask you first.
Frame oxidation
A frame with a white, powdery residue can get a separate detailing with an oxidation treatment and a protective coating.
Pool deck
Pressure washing the deck on the same visit, for algae, chlorine buildup, sunscreen oils and calcium deposits.
Torn screens
Panels that need new screen are quoted separately.

Questions about pool cage cleaning in Tampa
Will the cleaning damage my screens?
No. The low-pressure soft wash is safe for fiberglass and polyester screens. High pressure damages screens, so we do not use it.
Is the pool water protected?
Yes. We protect the pool water while we clean, and the rinse is gentle and at low pressure.
How often should a pool cage be cleaned?
We recommend once or twice a year. Cages near the water or under heavy tree cover usually need the second cleaning.
Do you clean lanai screen enclosures?
Yes. Lanais and patio screen enclosures get the same low-pressure soft wash as pool cages.
Can you clean the pool deck too?
Yes. The pool deck can be pressure washed at the same visit, to remove algae, chlorine buildup, sunscreen oils and calcium deposits.
What about an oxidized frame?
A frame with a white, powdery residue can get a separate detailing with an oxidation treatment and a protective coating. We quote it before we do it.
Can you fix torn screens?
Yes. Torn panels can be rescreened with Phifer 18/14 mesh. We quote the panels before any work.
How much does pool cage cleaning cost?
It depends mainly on the size of the cage and how much buildup it has. The estimate is free, and we confirm the final price before any work starts.
